Spencer Butterfield was born in Illinois and came to Nevada in 1917. He pursued a successful career in the banking industry, eventually becoming president of the Bank of Nevada. He was active in community affairs and was named Las Vegas "Man of the Year" in 1947. Georgia Hanna Butterfield was born in Elko, Nevada to a pioneer family.
